The Spears Avenue Project
The design-build in Northshore, Chattanooga was a fun one and gave us the opportunity to finally incorporate a much-anticipated porte cochere into one of our builds. This project was also personal for me—I used to live just one block away, so getting to return to a neighborhood that played such a big part in my journey to becoming a builder made it especially meaningful. Even when selecting the lot, I knew its size would give us more freedom with the footprint. For me, the design process starts long before anyone else is brought in: the lot, the way the house sits, how you enter it, and how one space leads into the next are all intentional parts of the end product.
One of my favorite examples is the “friends’ entry,” which leads directly into the bar area with easy access to the main living spaces. But we didn’t forget about business in the front—the formal entry brings guests through a color-drenched foyer that opens immediately to 19-foot ceilings and a stairwell filled with natural light. From the interior trim details to the handcrafted cabinetry, every space was designed to have its own moment while still feeling connected to the house as a whole.
